Instagram doesn’t usually “stop working”  most of the time, people just stop doing the basics long enough for them to compound.

In this episode, I break down the most ignored Instagram advice I give to clinics over and over again, the things that I know move the needle, but almost no one actually sticks with.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re “doing everything” and still not seeing results, this episode is meant to feel validating, not overwhelming. You don’t need a brand-new strategy. You need consistency around a few foundational behaviors that actually work.

Instagram Is Not a Billboard

One of the biggest mistakes clinics make is treating Instagram like a one-way broadcast.

Posting good content matters but content alone isn’t enough. Instagram rewards connection, not just visibility. Intentionally networking inside your local community is one of the most overlooked growth drivers, and a few minutes a day spent engaging with the right accounts can make a real difference over time.

This isn’t about going viral. It’s about becoming recognizable and trusted where you live.

Your Current Patients Are Your Secret Weapon

Another often-ignored piece? Getting current patients involved.

Following your account isn’t enough. Engagement is what actually keeps your content showing up, and your existing patients are the easiest place to start. Asking for simple actions (comments, shares, reposts) helps with retention, referrals, and visibility, and the fear of “being awkward” is usually the biggest barrier.

Marketing doesn’t have to feel polished to be effective, it just needs to be human.

Double Down on What’s Already Working

Instead of constantly reinventing your content, I encourage clinics to look at what has already performed well and do more of that.

Repurposing high-performing posts isn’t lazy. It’s strategic. This approach saves time, reduces decision fatigue, and helps you stop guessing what might work next.

If Instagram has felt harder than it should, this part of the episode will likely click.

Wrapping It Up

The advice in this episode isn’t flashy, and that’s exactly why it works.

If you implement even one of these consistently for a month or two, you’ll likely see more traction than you would chasing trends or overhauling your strategy.

Small, repeatable actions add up. Instagram growth is rarely about doing more. It’s about doing the right things long enough for them to matter.

Episode Transcript

Molly: Hello, Mya friends. Welcome back. I'm super excited about today's episode because I think you can really envision. So the episode is gonna be about the most ignored Instagram advice I give to all of my clients and students, and just anyone who's asking me for help. These are the things, um, you know, just like anybody, like any of you who maybe, you know, aren't a client or student who are just listening, or maybe you're just like, you know, perusing my free Instagram content.

Um, these are the things that I like, feel like I sound like a broken record and like I know for a fact move the needle on your clinic's Instagram, but nobody does them. It's like my note, the episode is my most ignored advice. What I was saying is, I feel like you can empathize here is because. I know there has to be things that you tell your patients or clients to do over and over again and then they don't do it and then they're just like, but I'm not feeling better.

Lemme give you a personal example. So I work with, um, it's called Gut Together, like a gut health specialist. And I was, you know, I've been having some digestive issues. Um. I'm gonna leave them in the past, I'm like trying to just like rewire my brain that is no longer my identity as someone who has digestive issues.

I'm actually going to a gastro for the first time. At the time this airs, I'll have already gone, but I'm like, can't believe I'm actually going to see a gastro. This is just like not, I just wanna make sure like nothing serious is wrong. I don't think it is. I think it's like neuroplastic pain. Anyway, I digress.

So I was like rereading the protocol that the gal from got together gave me. I was like, oh shoot. Like I thought I was doing everything in my protocol, but I'm not doing like some of the basics, which is like. Taking a couple deep breaths before I sit down to eat and like doing the I love you, massage on my belly at night and doing some vagus nerve stimulating exercises and just like little things that it's like, oh, well I just wanted like this magic pill.

And so like I said, this is kind of what this episode is going to be about. Three things that are like so always ignored, but I promise you if you just do them, pick one. Pick one. If all three sounds too much. Or, like I said, I try to empower you to delegate this to someone on your team or to someone else to make sure it's actually getting done.

I promise you, you, if you implement this like consistently for a month or two, you will see results. Okay, so let's dive in.

Hey, welcome to Holistic Marketing Simplified. This podcast boils down to the fact that we wholeheartedly believe that more humans need to know about holistic health solutions. And you didn't go to school to learn how to be a. Full-time content creator and show up on Instagram and do all of this marketing stuff all day, every day.

So let's come hanging out while we chat. All things easy in your marketing and my goal is that you shift your mindset around your marketing from a quote should to a I get to board Dream patients and clients. Yes, please.

Dr. Abby Parrish: Hello, my name is Dr. Abby Parrish, and I'm a chiropractor located in Old Town Daphne, Alabama.

And I listen to the Holistic Marketing Simplified podcast.

Molly: All right. The first piece of my most ignored advice, like I said, so I, I'll do these, like pick my brain calls with holistic marketing hub students or whatever. And you know, I can see like videos they've watched and they're like, I'm implementing everything you're teaching and I'm just not seeing the needle move.

And I'm like, okay. No one's doing this. Like, I'm like, are you doing this? And they're like, no, I haven't. And that is networking. So Instagram is not a billboard. You can't just like go download a bunch of like, these viral hooks got me a million views. And then like, yes, like good content is important. You know, scroll stopping hooks are mega, mega, mega important.

If you don't stop some scroll, your content's not gonna work. But you have to be networking and intentionally growing your community in the background. Now, obviously this isn't something that I can check, you know, if I'm auditing your account, this isn't something that I can see if you're doing it just from the background.

This is why you can't always reverse engineer. This is something that you need to actually carve out, you know, five to 10 minutes a day, Monday through Friday, or however many say you, maybe you start three days a week, and this is kind of like our checklist that we do for our clients who are on our top tier package.

We try to, like I said, three to five local businesses. So your first step is to brain dump a list of local businesses. It doesn't even necessarily have to be a local business that you've like, you know, you go to or whatever. Just like it can be colleagues and referral partners. So if you need to look in your electronic health records, like who's Referred Me Business, that's a great place to start.

Or it can be like a coffee shop or a restaurant or a boutique or whatever. And so take time, like maybe just pick three. Go comment on some of their content, share their post to your stories and tag them and then repost their content. This alone is really going to like, like I said, help you be more visible in the community and it's like, okay, let's say you're wanting more Google reviews.

Well, what if you never leave anyone Google reviews, right? Like, you kinda need to put out that energy that you wanna get back. The other thing that you can do here is see if there are local, so for example, in Cincinnati where I live, there are like so many Cincinnati quote like influencer accounts who are like things to do in Cincinnati.

Some of them are more family centric, some are more like, you know, hiking. Some are more like, you know, single young person like bar scene. But just gonna start searching Instagram for these more like blog type influencer things to do in your town. And if you live in a tiny town, like pick the next biggest city next to you and start commenting on their content.

So when people who are naturally already in your area are reading these, you know, things to do, like really popular accounts posts, then they're actually seeing your name come up in the comments section. So that's another thing. And those are also really great posts to share your stories. Lemme give you an example.

One of our clients is a pediatric chiropractor in Raleigh and Raleigh, um, is called like the triangle area 'cause there's like three cities and there is a, an Instagram account called like Triangle Families Explore. And it's for like moms of young kids. And it um, they're like always sharing like parks and events and stuff like that.

So we'll share that to her stories, and that makes your account like this local destination that people are like, Ooh, I wonder what's going on. Like, I'm gonna go check this. I'm gonna go check, you know, XY Z's account, rather than your account just being like a chiropractic account, or acupuncture account or whatever.

And then the last thing under this networking umbrella is to create collaboration posts. I have a whole episode on collab posts, basically. Uh, we can link that in the show notes, but basically what that looks like is like, uh, pelvic floor physical therapists. I recommend in the area or pediatric dentists I recommend in the area or yoga studios.

I recommend. And like, again, it doesn't have to be like one of our clients did like, um, Dr. Sydney's favorite date night spots around Phoenix and like she did like all, and again, if you're in a small town, like you can get creative, you can figure out something to do. You could be like, you know, restaurants that are worth the drive or whatever.

That's something we've done for another client before or we did for another client who's in a really small town. We did like a funny joke about QuickTrip 'cause apparently that's like, you know, the local joke is everybody like gets their dinner at QuickTrip. So. That all falls under the networking umbrella, and I bet everyone listening is like, oh shoot, I haven't been doing that.

So I promise if you do this consistently, you'll start to see the needle move and please don't come back to me like, well, nobody's replying back. Like nobody's, you know, reposting when I like, it's going to take time and eventually you'll kind of like my friend Danielle Roach, who was just on the podcast calls it Serve First Networking.

So you are serving them first. The second most ignored advice. Second piece of most ignored advice that I give that will really help move the needle is getting your current patients or clients involved in your Instagram. So if you just have a sign up with a QR code that's like follow us on a social media like that just sits at your front desk or in your exam rooms, that's great.

I'm not saying you shouldn't do that, but it's not enough. Also just the fact that following alone means very little. If one of your patients just goes and follows your account today, the chances that your content actually shows up on their feed just from them following you is like zilch you. They need to actually be interacting with your content in order for it to continuously show up on their feed.

You might ask, well, why do I want my current people involving or involved? I want my new, I want new people. Well, a couple different reasons. A, we know it's like what, seven times cheaper to retain a current patient or client than it is to get a new one. Two, it helps with, I said A, and then two, it helps with retention and re bookings.

It helps with referrals. 'cause they're like, oh yeah, I've been meaning to tell my friend about so and so. And then if you add like a new service or a new provider or whatever, like. It could be a great way like, oh, now we have massage, and now they're gonna come in for massager. Maybe they've only come in for acupuncture, but now they're gonna come in for herbs or gonna come in for cupping or whatever.

It's a good way to really get like more family members ancillary services. And from a strategic standpoint with the algorithm, it helps the algorithm understand, oh, I see people like this are interacting with their content. Let's show this content to more people. So get in the habit of quite literally, bluntly asking your patients, Hey, would you mind commenting on some of our, uh, posts while you're here?

Or like, you can hit this repost button. You can show 'em the repost button. It's like that little recycling thing underneath, uh, posts. Not everyone has it, so like, whoever they are, they might not have it. I'm just gonna be like a little tough love here. If that feels awkward for you to ask one of your patients or clients to do that, then you might want to consider hiring a mindset coach, because I promise you nobody cares.

Like I, people wanna help. People are like, they want to share your services with their friends, like. I promise you nobody. And if, and if they don't wanna do it, they just won't do it. Like, no one's gonna be like, Ugh, oh my God, I cannot believe she asked me to comment on her content. Um, and you know, you know your patient, you know who's going to be like the most willing to absolutely help you with this.

I've done a whole episode on like scrappy things to do to increase engagement. We can also link that in the show notes where I kind of go into this in a little more detail. I also have, I highly encourage you email your patients regularly, just in general. Also asking them to follow you and comment on some of your content.

Sometimes we'll link back to a really specific reel, be like weigh in, like what are your thoughts on this? Or whatever. I have free email scripts that you can just use to copy and paste to email your patients to get them involved with your Instagram. You can grab those free email scripts. And there's also a couple examples of emails we've done for clients to get, um, their current patients following them.

You can just go to molly kayhill.com/email and we'll also put that in the show notes. So, like I said, number two is get your current patients or clients involved, and you're gonna have to be, you know, kind of scrappy. This doesn't scale like intentional with this. And then the last most ignored piece of advice that I give is you need to double down on what's currently working.

If you are in my content sprint group coaching program, or if you're in the hub, one of my last lessons is I teach you how to very easily, very easily, I'm gonna say that twice, batch, create two weeks worth of content because I promise you are making it harder than it needs to be. Part of that batch creating two weeks of worth of content is we look through, which I teach you to look through, go to your professional dashboard on your Instagram profile.

Look what posts have gotten the most views over, like the last 90 days or so, and then repurpose those exact posts into something else. I've done other episodes on repurposing before, but this isn't just like a time saver. It's strategic, so at least one post a week, I like to have some type of repurposed, reposted, recycled post that has performed really well.

Like I said, this isn't just like strategic from like a time saving standpoint. It's strategic because it like, quite literally, you have like, don't reinvent the wheel, right? Like, okay, I know this is working, so why am I now gonna just like keep guessing? Right? So just to recap this, three pieces of most ignored Instagram advice I give that I know will actually move the needle as one to network and not treat Instagram like a billboard.

Two is to get your current patients or clients involved, and three, to double down on what's currently working. So I hope that you found this super helpful. Implement, like I said, even pick one for now if that, if all three sounds too much, try it consistently for a month and then come back and let me know.

All right, have a great day. Thank you for listening to Holistic Marketing Simplified, and hey, you know how every podcaster at the very end of their episode asks you to rate and review their podcast. Well that's because it's super important. These podcasts take a lot of time and heart and effort to produce, to bring you free information.

So in order for me to be able to continue doing that, we need more people to find out about the show. So if you could please just take like two minutes out of your very busy day to leave me a rating and share this on your Instagram stories and tag at Molly a Cahill. That's. C-A-H-I-L-L-I would greatly, greatly appreciate your support.

I know your time is valuable and I can't wait to see you in the next episode.
