Instagram just quietly rolled out a feature that could make a big difference in how local patients discover your clinic. It’s called Repost—and with one simple tap, your content can reach far beyond your own followers.
In this episode of Holistic Marketing Simplified, I walk you through exactly how the repost feature works, the experiment I ran that nearly tripled my reach, and why this small but powerful feature is a shortcut to growing your local audience.
What Is the Repost Feature?
Under each post on Instagram (mobile only, for now), you’ll see two circular arrows that look a lot like a recycling symbol. That’s the repost button.
When someone taps it, your post gets re-shared directly into their followers’ feeds—not just their Stories. It’s a whole new layer of visibility, and it has the potential to introduce you to hundreds of new people who may have never found you otherwise.
My Experiment with Reposting
I put this feature to the test by asking a handful of referral partners to repost one of my posts that was already gaining traction.
Here’s what happened:
- My views jumped from 9,437 to over 26,000 in just a few days
- Shares skyrocketed from 204 to 617
- Saves leapt from 252 to 654
- I gained 170 new followers from that one post
And here’s the kicker: more than 270 people visited my profile, with 20 clicking through to my bio link.
How You Can Use It Locally
The real magic happens when you invite your patients and local partners to help spread the word.
➡️ Next time a patient comes in, ask them to tap the repost button on a specific post. It’s just like asking for a Google review—most of your biggest fans will be happy to do it.
➡️ Reach out to your referral partners (like gyms, doulas, or local businesses) and ask them to repost one of your posts.
➡️ Choose posts that represent your services well, so new eyes see the content that matters most.
Wrapping It Up
Instagram’s new repost feature is an easy, no-cost way to expand your local reach. With just a few taps from your patients and partners, your clinic can show up in front of brand-new audiences who are already connected to people who trust you.

Molly: Hello, my friends. Welcome back. I just need to take a minute to first thank all of you because whenever I get dms saying that you've been listening to the podcast, I just got one saying, uh, mg. You'll know this was to you. Uh, I listened to you while I was painting the walls of my clinic. All of that just really makes my day because I need to just like set the scene that if you're an extrovert, I need to hear from you because the majority of you listening to this don't have a schedule like me, right?
Like you're probably in clinic all day or in your practice seeing your patients or your clients, and so you get more of that social fill and more of that recharge. I am an Enneagram, Enneagram seven. I'm a generator in human design, and I'm a massive extrovert, and I have a really hard time working from home and picking up this microphone and recording to nobody.
So the fact that you let me know that you're listening, it just keeps me going week after week. So if you haven't yet sent me a message we haven't yet met, please send me a message. I thrive on spending time in my inbox and really developing these rich relationships with all of you. I've just met a really, like a lot of cool people, and I appreciate you so much.
So with that being said, I also wanted to remind you about my brand new free masterclass. It's named something a little similar to the masterclass I did all the way back in April. I mean, it's been a long time since I've done a free live training. I was just kind of taken it easy this summer. Anybody else like that.
And so I'm really excited about it. It's, like I said, it's a similar title, but the, uh, what I'm covering on it is completely new. It's called the go-to practitioner, fill your clinic with local patients using Instagram. So in this new free masterclass, I'm gonna be going over my non-negotiable four part framework.
And the reason I say non-negotiable four part framework, I feel like that's such like a buzz word, like framework and all that, but. Truly after doing this for six years and running, you know, 30 plus Instagram accounts for years, it's like, it's so easy to go scroll Instagram and get all of this information.
And if you're like me, all of your saved posts are just like this graveyard of like stuff you're like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll implement that. And like, there's all these trends and lots of noise and you know, there's just so much stuff going on. So I really have distilled everything I teach. I hate to call it a curriculum 'cause that just sounds, that sounds stuffy.
We all know I am not a stuffy human, but I've really distilled down all of the curriculum that I teach inside of my program. Holistic Marketing Hub. Well, and also what the process that we follow with our Instagram management clients, right when we're doing it for them. Into four parts, and that is what I'm gonna be going over on this new masterclass, as well as I get a lot of objections around like, well, I'm not trying to be an influencer, or I don't have enough time.
So if any of that is something you've thought, then you definitely wanna join me live, even if you're a current patient. Current patient, guys, it's the end of the day. I should record these earlier in the night. Even if you are a current student or client of mine, I still think it'll be a good refresher just to come, kind of see it all laid out this way.
So you can register by going to molly kayhill.com/master masterclass. Um, so molly kayhill.com/masterclass, or you can DM me the word masterclass. We'll also have it linked on my website, uh, link in my bio on Instagram, all that jazz, jazzy jazz. And that's gonna be October 9th. There will be two times to choose from, and I really hope to see there.
Yes, if you can't join live, there will be a replay, but there will be a special show up bonus, which I'm really excited about. So today's episode is actually gonna be a A shorty. Short. Short because it's not a lot to tell you, but it's very impactful and it's all about one of Instagram's newest features called Repost.
And I'm gonna talk about an experiment I did on Friday and then how this repost feature, I'm gonna give you like a really simple bit of homework. It's actually what I emailed. All of our Instagram man management clients this weekend to do and it's just like so simple. And I, so I haven't tested it yet in terms of like, like I said, I tested on my own account.
I have not heard back from my Instagram management clients yet. 'cause I literally just emailed them yesterday to do this. But I feel so confident that if you do what I'm gonna talk about in this episode. It's going to really put some fuel on the fire of your growth with trying to attract more local people.
So here we go.
Hey, welcome to Holistic Marketing Simplified. This podcast boils down to the fact that we wholeheartedly believe that more humans need to know about holistic health solutions. And you didn't go to school to learn how to be a. Full-time content creator and show up on Instagram and do all of this marketing stuff all day, every day.
So let's come hanging out while we chat. All things easy in your marketing and my goal is that you shift your mindset around your marketing from a quote should to a I get to board dream patients and clients. Yes, please.
Dr. Nick Belden: My name is Dr. Nick Belden and I'm a functional medicine practitioner and chiropractor living in a beautiful, sunny.
Phoenix, Arizona and I listen to the Holistic Marketing Simplified podcast, and you should do,
Molly: okay, so Instagram, I can't remember when they added it, but it's called the repost feature. And if you open up, if you don't have this. You probably just need to update your app. 'cause I was talking to somebody on Friday who didn't have it, and then they went and updated and then now they do have it.
If you open up any of your, it doesn't, it's not just for reels, but if you open like a post or a reel or whatever, and this is only on, it's only available on mobile right now. At the time I'm recording this, it is not available on desktop. It doesn't mean that it won't eventually be available on desktop.
Right now it's just on mobile. Okay. Underneath the post, you will see like two kind of circular looking arrows that almost look like a, like a recycling icon, and that is the repost feature. So when somebody reposts your post, then theoretically. It will show in that person, like show to all of that person's followers.
So example, if I repost something from one of my clients, then that post from my client. Theoretically will show to all of my followers. So I say the word theoretically because you're still contending with an algorithm, right? So let's say it's a post about acupuncture and fertility that I choose to repost to all of my followers.
The algorithm's still going to try to parse out who needs to see that. Does that make sense? Like it's not gonna just like automatically go right front and center in the feed of all of my followers. I mean, that would be really cool if it would. It's now has a better chance of being shown to all of my followers.
So on Friday, I already had a post that was starting to take off and go viral, which is actually a little sidebar that I need to tell y'all. Do you know I've never gone viral until literally this weekend in my six years of business. I should. And I just feel like it's important to tell all of y'all that because I think virality is considered this like holy gra of things you must achieve.
And like I feel like I've been putting out really good, solid content for a while. And I'm totally okay that I haven't gone, gone viral. Like I'm just, my business is thriving. You know what I mean? Like I'm almost a hundred percent referral. I'm so niche, like I'm just not that concerned with it. So I just thought it was interesting to tell y'all that.
Yeah, for the first time. I'm actually, and if you're wondering what going viral means, it's literally just, there's no definition in terms of a number. It just means. A good bit more than what you normally get. That's the, that's the non-technical Molly definition. Like, so there's no set number that's like 10 x times what you normally get or you know, whatever.
It's just a good bit, a lot more than what you normally get. Okay. So, yeah, so I'm going viral with this like. My pinned post freebie, which is just the perfect thing to go viral on. Uh, if you haven't grabbed it yet, it's actually one of my favorite freebies I've ever done. Molly cahill.com/pinned. It's, um, Canva, triplets for your pinned posts.
So anyway, it was, that post was already doing well. And so I just had this thought. So I DMed five or six of my referral partners who, um, I have some chiropractic business coaches I work with. I have an acupuncture marketing person that I collab with a lot. I DMed them and said, Hey, I've got this experiment.
Would you mind reposting this? And I will go repo, well, I actually said this plus maybe like two or three other things of mine. And then I said, I'll go do the same for you and I'll go repost a couple of your posts. And so I did and they did for me. I took the entire weekend off of Instagram because if you're in America, hello.
Current events, it's a really, really tough time to be, just to be a human and, uh, it's a really tough time to be on social. So I took the, in the whole weekend off of Instagram and still on Friday I had 9,400 views on this post, which I said is already a lot for me. I'm not gonna tell you the comments 'cause it's like my MiniChat response.
So it's like, you know, half of the comments are my MiniChat responding. So I had 204 shares originally on Friday and 252 saves. Okay, so now I wake up, it's a Monday. On Monday after asking my referral partners to reshare it, and so five of them did. I went from 9,437 views on Friday to. 26,771 views now, and, and that was like hours ago.
That was when I screenshotted this. It's still taking off. It is still going wild. My shares went from 204 on Friday to 617 and my saves went from 252 to 654. Like this is bananas. That's not even all the stats. What's even cooler to me is I got 271 profile visits from this post, meaning after seeing that 271 people came to my profile to check out more of my content, which I love, and I got a hundred.
And 70 follows from this post, that never happens to me. And 20 external link taps. So 20 people went and clicked the link in my bio after seeing this, which was just like so, so bananas exciting, right? Like I said, what's even better about this one for me is the fact that this is an opt-in, right? So for these Penn posts freebies, so most of these I'm collecting email addresses for right?
If I was going to go viral, this was like the perfect post to go viral for, because it's also very targeted to brick and mortar clinics, which is my bread and butter, right? Yeah. So my simple homework to you is when you are in your practice, even, whether it's you know, brick and mortar or virtual, simply ask like five to seven, how?
I don't know. There's no magic number. Ask your patient when they're in. Hey. Can you do me a favor? We're really trying to grow our local reach. Can you just tap this button right here? And literally all they have to do, I would pick like maybe a couple posts just that you, I, when I originally thought about this, I thought, well, you could just ask them to repost anything, and you can, you can totally do that if that feels easier.
But most of my partners that iMessage were like, well, which post do you want me to repost? And so, okay. It does make it a little easier on the person if you're like, Hey, can you repost this specific thing? So yeah. And it's literally just that little, like I said, that repost icon under posts, which looks like a little recycling icon, they just tap it.
That is it. Okay. Then, like I said, it will, uh, theoretically show to all of their followers. Right. You definitely could do this with, you know, other people, right? Like you could say, Hey Molly, can you repost my thing? But here's the problem is like, I'm not really in your area. So I'm not saying that it wouldn't help still get your content in front of more people and eventually would reach a local audience.
But I think by doing this with your patients and saying, Hey, will you, would you mind reposting this post for me? I'm doing a little experiment. Like, I know that y'all have patients and clients who just love you and would do anything for you. It's like asking for a Google review, right? It's not that big of a deal just to ask.
I would be happy to do this for, you know, anybody that I go see, I would be thrilled. Uh, I mean, I usually do it anyway without being asked, right? Um, so yeah, just ask, can you repost this? And another thing, if you wanna take it a step farther is you're anybody who you normally like, collaborate or do like referrals with.
So, um, you know, is there a CrossFit gym who refers you business or a physical therapist or a doula or whatever? Just send 'em a quick dm. Be like, Hey, I'm doing this experiment that I learned, and please share. Please share this episode when you tell them. Can you just like tap the repost button on this?
Now you can. One thing I didn't mention is when that person taps the repost button, they can choose to put like a little note with it, like a little message, but they don't have to. I've reposted some, some I put little notes on and some I didn't. The only thing that will happen is like, okay, for example, I reposted one of, um, Dr.
Mo's, she was on the podcast a couple weeks ago. I reposted one of her reels. So now whenever that reel shows to all of my followers and one of my followers sees that reel that I reposted of Dr. Mo's, my little profile photo will kind of like float over it with the repost icon. So that's literally all that happens.
So I did also wanna just point out one thing that, how this is different from sharing a post to your stories. Is, it's just kind of two different audiences. So if you were to take one of my posts and use the paper airplane icon instead of the repost icon, and you put the paper airplane icon, you can, um, post that to your stories or that also allows you to directly DM my content to somebody, or it allows you to get the hyperlink to that piece of content for me.
So when you, let's say you choose to post one of my posts on your stories. Please do that too. I appreciate that too. Then that is just going to show to only your current followers who happen to see your stories in a like a slightly different way versus going to your followers feeds. Does that make sense?
It's like two different places. So they're both great. Like it's not like, this is like replacing the paper airplane thing and sharing stuff to your stories. You have to think. Everybody uses Instagram a little differently. There are some people who go on Instagram and only watch people's stories and the beauty of it being reposted into other people's feeds and it getting good traction.
Is then you also increase the chance that the algorithm's like, Hey, this is great content. I'm gonna show this to even more people who aren't following you. So it's more of a snowball effect, I would say, than just sharing something directly to your stories. So, yeah, so like I said, let me know if you have any questions about this, if it makes sense.
I kind of break it down if you're a visual person. I posted a carousel just showing the exact button to push, but it's, I mean, you don't need to be tech savvy. It's literally the little recycling looking icon in you just tap it. So yeah, ask like five to seven of your patients or clients this week to repost your content and then report back to me and let me know what happens.
Okay. All right. I hope this was a very helpful and actionable episode for you. Don't forget to register for my new free masterclass, molly cahill.com/masterclass. We'll also link that in the show notes, and I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day. Thank you for listening to Holistic Marketing Simplified, and hey, you know how every podcaster at the very end of their episode asks you to rate and review their podcast.
Well that's because it's super important. These podcasts take a lot of time and heart and effort to produce, to bring you free information. So in order for me to be able to continue doing that, we need more people to find out about the show. So if you could please just take like two minutes out of your very busy day to leave me a rating and share this on your Instagram stories and tag at Molly a Cahill.
C-A-H-I-L-L-I would greatly, greatly appreciate your support. I know your time is valuable and I can't wait to see you in the next episode.
